General Technical Meaning

Waḥy is hidden or rapid communication conveyed by speech, writing, message, or sign.

In ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī’s Works

In the reviewed al-Manāmāt discussion of received knowledge, ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī uses waḥy for a mode whose cause is witnessed: reception from the First Reality directly or through a witnessed mediation such as the communicating angel. The passage marks a mode of reception, and does not collapse every dream, inward casting, or hidden call into waḥy.
