Shaqāwa

شقاوةshaqāwa

Preferred translation
wretchedness
Technical sense
the extreme end opposed to felicity, reached through deviancy of constitution or through formation

General Technical Meaning

Shaqāwa is the contrary of saʿāda (felicity).

In ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī’s Works

In the reviewed al-Manāmāt classification, ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī uses shaqāwa for the opposed path and extreme end associated with deviancy of natural constitution; intermediate cases can also move toward it under formative conditions. This is not simply a synonym for a passing unhappiness, nor an exhaustive account of every form of moral failure.
